Or 'brown rat' to you and me. I saw this remarkably bold individual at lunchtime today.

I must be one of the very few people who stops and watches the rats in the park. They tend to keep under cover and slip by unnoticed by most people (a mutually agreeable strategy I suspect). It's odd knowing that they are around, but I'd be more concerned to see them in the street. Note how this one exits the scene!

I also took loads of photos of squirrels (who crave attention, and receive it constantly). I'll sort out some more photos tomorrow, but as a teaser of what I did get here's one very lucky peanut lover!

  1. Funny, brown rat is not brown at all 😀

  2. I could have called it 'sewer' rat, or 'common' rat as well… they have so many names… and this lot too 😉

  3. I remember that one 😀

  4. It's all PR (and bushy tails 😀 )

  5. Mick, you're probably right. The bushy tail makes all the difference. 😀

  6. Erwin, you're not alone, I'm sure. They're not really my favourite animal either, but they are fascinating to see.

  7. Actually quite cute looking rat 😀 Very bold it was to pose for so many excellent shots

  8. Love the squirrel and floating peanut shot (at least, I think the peanut is mid air)!

And rats…are rats. They are very interesting to watch though perhaps people should stop feeding them with KFC litter!

  9. Adele, yes that's a peanut (or 'manna from heaven' as the squirrels know them). I have to admit to having become quite fond of the park rats. They're the only 'real' wildlife there (ie tricky to spot and worth struggling to get pictures of).

  10. Sami, I got an even cuter one today. I'll post pictures later (the sunshine helped).
