  1. great photos as ever. I just tried to photograph one of my foxes in the garden. There were 3 and its the longest Ive ever seen them for. They seemed un fazed by the floodlight but when I openbed the door they did the look pause leggit thing 🙁 – Di you have to get yours used to your presence or were they just tame to start with?

  2. Neil, this one was one of the cubs we got to know last year so she's been used to us from an early age, but the 'opening the door' thing is a familiar problem! The nicked-ear vixen hates it which is why I have relatively few photos of her. The bold vixen and the dog fox will wait while I open the door, go out, go in again, change batteries, get a new lens etc…

The only way round the scattering instinct it is to be out there when they arrive, keep very still and let them pluck up courage to get closer to you. Moving towards them will make them run (at first). Oh and get their attention with a handful of sultanas or something. It doesn't need to be much, just enough to slow them down and tempt them back if they do scarper. Patience is the key. I used to sit outside waiting for a couple of hours at a stretch when we first started to see them.

Great though that you've got three foxes visiting together!

  3. That final picture is just lovely! She has a beautiful face.

Foxes do vary so much in their tolerance levels. The SV is just…the SV, but her sisters were so much more patient with the lense-swapping thing 😉

  4. Vulpes

  5. 😀

  6. Adele, she's easily the prettiest vixen we've seen round here. And very good with lenses too!

  7. She's lovely! Great shots, as usual! 🙂
