The small birds

This selection was taken yesterday (Thursday). I would have got them up sooner but put my PC into a chkdsk run last night which lasted about 5 hours! That, plus the late night downtime, conspired against posting anything. Better late than never though. The photos are all in the November Birds album, with numerous additional shots.

The stars of the show were the longtailed tits, a small bird that I see frequently but have very rarely managed to photograph. They were flitting around ceaselessly but for once I had a good vantage point. One interesting point about this species is that it functions in an extended family group, with the adults sharing parental duties. It's also a wonderfully pretty little thing.

Mixing in among the longtails were two other tit varieties. The great tit and the blue tit.

    Flying teaspons! LOL. Yes, it's a sequence I've been after for the past couple of years. I managed about 50 'keepers' but whether I'll get to edit them all is another matter. Went back there to day, and not one in sight, but there are several colonies of them locally so I may get more opportunities now I know where to look. It helps that the light was excellent.

    Ah, the L lens, that explains quite a lot 🙂

    Really nice background bokeh and colours with a choice of DOF. Great shots 🙂

    Oh, how wonderful! I've been wanting to photograph long-tailed tits too and have never got anything remotely as good as these! :up:

    They're a big favourite of mine. I think I told you before about their description in one of my bird books: "like so many flying teaspoons!" 😀

    Thanks Ramūnas. The lens is great. It took a while to get used to it and I still miss plenty of shots. But yesterday the conditions were perfect.
