The foxes have been excelling themselves for the past couple of nights. Yesterday (Thursday) the old dog fox paid a visit and posed perfectly on the garage roof. Tonight (Friday) the mis-named shy fox showed herself, and posed for a series of close-up shots around the garden pond. I've put a selection (I took well over 100 shots all told) up on my website, but here's a small taster.

  1. Wow talk about co-operative! some lovely photos 🙂

  2. Yes, those are some wonderful shots!

  3. Thanks Lois 😀

  4. Thanks Neil. Nights like the last two are one of the reasons I take so many shots. You can never be sure that they'll hang around. Well the dog fox usually will, but with the others it seems fairly random. They may stay for a minute, or hang around for 20. What was such a surprise tonight is that the vixen came right up to the camera like that.

  5. Super!!

  6. Incredible catches! The last one of the vixen is almost unbelievable. It's as if she's actually posing for you.
The young are so vain 😉 ,,,,apparently in all spiecies.

    Wonderful!

  7.

  8. Fantastic! I really love the 3rd, 4th and last one, great screensavers:heart:

  9. The young vixen is beautiful 🙂

  10. Very nice indeed! She's becoming quite a show off!

I have noticed that the behaviour of the vixens has altered dramatically in the last few days; the Chipped Vixen has virtually taken over the garden up here. Presumably your vixen will bring her cubs into your garden in the not-too-distant future! 😀

  11. I wonder if she will den up for a brood in a small area like that or go elsewhere?

  12. Vulpes, thanks!

  13. Thanks FB 🙂

  14. Thanks Andy!

  15. Bitzy, she was more or less posing by that point. At one point she would approach as I lined up the camera (blocking out my face, which no doubt was an improvement in her eyes!)

  16. Darko, thanks! And she's really getting used to the camera!

  17. Adele, she certainly is! I'm reasonably confident we'll see some cubs again, but whether in April or slightly later is hard to tell. It sounds like you may be luckier this year though, if the chipped vixen is hanging around so much. 😀

  18. Wonderful shots…a joy to see them!:happy:

  19. Bitzy, she won't build the den in our garden, but I would think it will be nearby. How near though, I can't tell. The distance will determine whether the cubs appear here after a month (ie in April), or slightly longer.

  20. Mark, glad you liked them. I think my personal fave is the old fox on the roof, but I was delighted with all of them. Usually I grab a lot of shots, but over the past two nights they were so cooperative I was able to take a bit more care.
