There was an extremely low tide at Rottingdean today. The plus side of this is that it means I can get further out away from the beach. The minus is that the sea birds have exactly the same idea which means I never get any closer to the cormorants. They were active though, diving for fish and even catching one every now and then (and juggling with them).

Those nearer the shore didn't seem to be having much success, but they provided better photographic opportunities.

A third cormorant was situated at a distance roughly midway between the two previous sequences.

The gulls were also active. Here's a young herring gull with a crab supper.

As for the fulmars, they were taking the day off. I didn't see a single one on the wing. They were just relaxing at home on a Saturday afternoon, taking in the view.

  1. Surprised to see fulmars with their mouth shut 😛

  2. That's a wonderful series of shots with some great action! 😆 "fulmars with their mouth shut" 😆

  3. I don't blame the fulmars – a relaxing weekend every now and then is healthy 😀

Nice photos of the cormorants

  4. Erwin, thanks!

  5. Darko, that was most unusual, but it was a hot day and maybe they just wanted a rest.

  6. Adele, the fulmars had the right idea. The cormorants were a little too far away, but they were the most active birds around.

  7. Lois, thanks!

  8. Wonderful Photos
