Or 'Blue Blurry Gulls' to be exact. The dull mornings are keeping my camera on slow. These shots are a slight variation on the recent theme in that I've tried to keep a tight focus on the bird's head. It doesn't always work, but I think it does in this one. It helps when the bird keeps its head in one plane.

If it moves around too much you get something like this.

With even less movement, you get this.

The only 'proper' shot from today is a goldfinch, which dropped down to perch on a nearby fence.

I didn't manage to get a photo of a perching buzzard by the side of the road (I was driving at the time, but it was great to see it), or a pair of overflying sparrowhawks as I walked from one meeting to another while at work.

No sign yet of the foxes this evening, but this one was the pick of the trailcam images from a couple of nights ago.

  1. I'm always amused by the difference between your goldfinches and ours … when I was a kid, American goldfinches were called "wild canaries".
I like the second gull best.

You know, that last blurry gull shot looks so much like a painting – I love it.

    Very very nice.

  3. interesting :headbang:

  4. Is there a third fox visiting? The one lying down looks like it's staring to the right.

  5. dW, 'wild canaries' sounds like a good name for the American goldfinch.

  6. Marilyn, the 'painted' look is what surprised me so much about some of these, especially when the movement is slight. If the dul weather continues, I'll get plenty more. 😉

  7. Adele, there could well be a third fox. Certainly I had a 'limping' fox on the trail cam I think on the same night, and I doubt it was either of these too. I'd need to check timings. If I switched back to video I would see a bit more.
