Village churchyards are an ideal habitat for much of our wildlife. They tend to be sheltered, slightly overgrown with plenty of cover to escape predators, and quiet. These rabbits were happily taking advantage of the peace to enjoy some gentle grazing.

The ducks, on the other hand, were perhaps a little more reticent. Not quite fence-sitting, but the result's the same.

The tiny wrens have no such qualms. They love the nooks and crannies, and ragged undergrowth, though once in a while they'll pop out for a better view.

Likewise with the collared dove, though strictly speaking this shot was taken just outside the churchyard.

As for the adjacent pond…

…. a pair of cormorants were scouting the area this morning. One briefly touched down on the water, but these were taken during the fly past.

  1. Stunning! Absobloodylutely stunning!
And the closeup of the wren would have been enough for a post by herself.

  2. Collared dove, they don't have them in BC. Pigeons in general are rare here.
    Nice wren photo

  3. Darko, there are some mourning doves in BC. They're like collared doves but smaller.

    Great shot of the wren!

  4. dW, thanks! The wren shot isn't too sharp, but it was nice to get reasonably close. They are such noisy little things.

  5. Darko, I didn't think there was anywhere on the planet where pigeons are rare.

  6. Adele, thanks. I see lots of wrens at the moment, but they are so awkward to photograph!
