A day of unrelenting rain means that I've a chance to include a few more shots from yesterday, the most striking addition to Falmer pond (apart from the rats) being these two floating sculptures which have appeared over the past week or so as part of an 'Art & Soul' exhibition.

Before I'd seen the rats (but after I spotted the sculptures) I startled a sandpiper, which promptly flitted to the far end of the pond. Once there it settled down and I was able to get within moderate range.

And so to today…. This is the view through the kitchen window this afternoon.

The rain eventually stopped during the evening and – as you might expect – I've had a quick prowl around the garden. No foxes, but the rain has topped up the garden pond nicely and – coincidence? – the young newts (still sporting gills) are out and about and busily feeding. As are the damselfly nymphs (though they risk being taken by the newts if they're not careful).

It feels like autumn has arrived. Will we get a late burst of summer? Somehow I doubt it; but a decent autumn would be very nice.

  1. The blurred picture and sandpiper shots are 😎

  2. Blurry photo is my usual morning vision, before coffee when I still haz the dumb 😆

  3. Erwin, thanks. Sandpipers a very pretty little birds, and usually quite timid.

  4. Darko, I don't believe that for a minute. I bet you're always sharp as a bell. 😀

  5. Sami, thanks. The window was just a sheet of water. We're very exposed and it was catching the full force of the rain.

  6. 😆

  7. It feels very autumnal up here. It probably does in Norfolk as well, East Anglian autumns and winters being fairly distinctive weather-wise

Nice to see the sandpiper, and the newts

  8. Adele, it will be interesting to see your photos from East Anglia… very different landscape. So flat….

  9. Lovely Photo of the sandpiper
