The title is simply an excuse to post a few shots taken at Falmer pond today. First thing this morning the cormorant was hiding, so much so that I wondered if he'd wandered away. I did eventually spot the heron (it's surprising how well such a large bird can hide itself in the right conditions). It was lurking under some overhanging branches in the north-east corner of the pond. And then it took off…

There was little else to see until lunchtime, when my continued search for the cormorant took me to the southern end of the pond, where numerous ducks were gathering. Here's an incoming duck! All grace and elegance

And then finally I spotted the cormorant. He was swimming up and down along the eastern edge of the pond, in deep shade, but eventually made his way out into the open water.

That short flight was quickly followed by a scramble on to the island, where he shook himself down and hung himself out to dry.
