The previous entry was taken on my way in to work. I saw the peahen at the side of the road. Too good an opportunity to miss so I pulled into the side and took a few shots. Fortunately it's a quiet lane and there was no traffic about. Before that I'd been over to the fields where I saw the sheep yesterday. There wasn't too much activity until I noticed a tiny speck of movement in the far corner of one of the fields.

This is full frame at 400mm focal length

Yes, a roe deer and fawn out in the weak early morning sun. This is the first time I've had any sighting of the local deer. I was far too far away for any decent shots, but watched as they made their way along the edge of the field. Here are a few more images, cropped quite heavily.

So by 8.30 this morning I'd got my first photos of deer in the wild (I've previously only seen them in managed park-lands), and my first peahen. I wonder if she is related to the peacock that frequented the car park at work a few months back?

I'll update on the foxes in more detail soon, but we've had an extended visit from the old dog fox (Monday night), and a flying visit from the nicked ear vixen (tonight).

Camera note: all shots taken with the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM IS lens.

  1. Beautiful shots of the deer in motion. Lovely landscape as well!

  2. They're a lovely colour, such graceful things. Sounds like you were having a good day! 🙂

  3. Thanks Lois!

  4. Adele, it was a nice start to the day, but it didn't continue. It rained in the middle of the day and I saw next to nothing until the vixen showed up breifly in the evening.

  5.

  6. Vulpes!
