Earlier this evening I commented that last night I'd seen two foxes together by our garden pond. It had been a brief sighting, but marked yet another change in behaviour. Although we've often seen a single adult out with cubs, or occasionally two vixens together, seeing the old dog fox with one of the vixens is something new. Well apart from a brief moment earlier in the month, but that was more a chance passing than a sustained sharing of the space. And as ever, no sooner mentioned than repeated.
The bold vixen is on the wall, accompanied by the old dog fox
Notice how her ears have gone back
For the rest (so far) see the new Two Foxes album. With luck I'll be able to add to it soon.
Camera note: all shots taken with the EF 24-105 F4L IS USM lens.

23 Apr 2008That is just amazing seeing the two of them together. The last one shows such a private connection between the two of them.

23 Apr 2008Thanks! It's fascinating that we've been watching multiple foxes for three years and this is about the first time I've been able to observe two adults interacting so closely.

23 Apr 2008Pat, I think there must be cubs nearby but nothing to report yet except for some squealing noises late one night from a nearby garden.

23 Apr 2008Adele, I've not seen any obvious signs that she's lactating which surprises me a bit. Same with the nicked-ear vixen (and believe me I take shots from enough strange angles to have noticed!)

2 May 2008I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but I think they may have their home base a bit far away this year. We'll have to see. With luck they'll bring them when they're a bit bigger.
