No, this isn't about films, but an excuse to post some photos from Bentley Wildfowl & Motor Museum. We'd gone there because it is near the garage where I was having my car fixed (my satnav somehow broke the cigar lighter over the weekend, which also blew the radio and trip computer). So getting the car back put us in the right location, and the weather today was surprisingly pleasant after all the recent gloom. It's a very relaxed location, with a good range of walks through the wildfowl collection. I prefer my wildlife 'wild', but we enjoyed BWMM. Here's a small selection of pictures.

Peacock chicks

Cockerel near the entrance

I've no idea what this is, but it looked good!

We also checked out the collection of cars, but I have to admit it was a replica that caused me most excitement! Yes, childish I know, but while I can admire the elegance of vintage Jaguars, I actually used to own one of the Corgi James Bond DB5s when they first came out. It is easily the best toy car ever.

Corgi Aston Martin DB5

As for the flamingos in the title, well they were slightly hidden away on the wildfowl reserve but I did manage to find a viewing point.

Pink Flamingos

Camera note: the cockerel and cars were taken with the EF17-40mm f/4L USM lens. The other shots were all on the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM IS.

  1. When I was a kid I liked Matchbox cars, I had about 20 of them 😀
    :sst: much better than Majorette

    Nice photo of flamingos

  2. Darko, those cars were great. We had Corgi, Dinky (rubbish! I never liked them) and Matchbox (cool but smaller).

  3. How I miss Matchbox and Majorette cars!

"I've no idea what this is, but it looked good!" Fantastic secret bird, we need 007 to find what is! :D:D

  4. I'll have to do some investigating :sherlock:

  5. Great shots! I'll be interested to find out about your mystery bird. The flamingos with the reflections are great!

  6. Great stuff. My first insinct on the mystery bird is a male Guinea fowl but I not sure to be honest

  7. 😆

  8. LOL, I never was much of a car fan. I used to collect little plastic animals (surprised? ;))

The peacock chicks are very cute! But they've got a lot of growing to go 😀

  9. Lois, I think Neil has identified the bird. With a bit of checking I can confirm it is a Helmeted Guinea Fowl. New one on me!

  10. Adele, you surprise me! The chicks were very sweet, but of the birds I was most taken with the cockerel (which isn't part of the collection, but was in a garden at the boundary of the site).

  11. Neil, thanks for the pointer on the guinea fowl. A quick google from that got me a confirmed identification.

  12. Hope you got your car fixed. Lovely flamingos, so cute the peacock chicks. 🙂

  13. Cynthia, the car is fine (thanks!).

  14. Beautiful shots! I love the Helmeted GF!:D

  15. FB, thanks! The guinea fowl was very striking!

  16. "I've no idea what this is, but it looked good!"

LOL! 😀 Cracking flamingo shot – love the reflection.

  17. I really need to improve my in-the-field identification skills. I'm hopeless most of the time, but usually someone is able to help out. 😀
