Swans and Geese

Over the past week I’ve been over in Eastbourne a couple of times for work. The beautiful winter mornings have made it well worth making an early start and breaking the drive at Seven Sisters. The swans have been the real stars, but I’ve also enjoyed the flights of geese criss-crossing over the valley. This is a small selection of the way too many photos I’ve taken.

Beautiful light and a very handsome mute swan gliding by. Good start to the day!

Even better when joined by a mate.

I’ll end with a portrait of one of the swans.

A Grey Day at Pulborough Brooks

The weather was far from perfect, but with more rain forecast it may well be the best day we’ll have this week. I headed over to the RSPB reserve at Pulborough Brooks in West Sussex.

It was quiet (this is not the best time of year for bird watching), but even on a quiet day there’s always something to catch the eye and the lens. The dominant avians from most of the viewing points were the Canada geese. Most of the time they were content to graze, but they did occasionally rouse themselves to fly short distances to new feeding areas.

Just off the edge of the reserve I discovered a route down to the river Arun. It too was quiet, but I did see a pair of mute swans, and the beuatiful demoiselle damselflies were also active.

The rains came around lunchtime which put pay to the visit, but hopefully I’ll get back there again soon.

Meanwhile here’s a short video of some of the garden wildlife.

Canada Geese at Falmer

Just a very few early morning shots today. I spotted them as soon as I arrived at the pond. I’m used to seeing geese there, but these two weren’t the usual greylags. Two Canada geese were quietly gliding across the water.

Canada geese

To be completely honest I can’t recall if Canada geese have shown up previously at Falmer, but they are undoubtedly not regular visitors to the local pond. They were keeping to themselves, and the greylags were leaving them be.

Nothing from the rest of the day, but I’m hopeful of a partly decent week in terms of the weather so maybe something more tomorrow night.
