The recent spell of warmer weather has brought the garden pond back to life, with the amphibians spending more time near to the surface during the evening. It's only a small pond, and we take next to no care of it other than clearing leaves and weed occasionally. But the amphibians seem to love it, and we have a healthy collection of frogs, toads (well at least two toads) and newts. Here a selection from this evening. There are plenty more from tonight in the Amphibians album.

The young toad was surface walking over the weed

At full stretch

A large frog was relaxing

A tiny froglet was scaling the pond wall

And even the newt came near to the surface

  1. All great shots, but the one of the froglet scaling the pond wall is a classic! 😀

  2. Very nice:D I havent seen my little Froggy friend for a while, its a bit drier now so i think hes gone back to his pond.

  3. Last night was exceptional for the pond. Usually the newts dive down when I shine the torch, but this one seemed reasonably relaxed about it. As for the froglet, I should put a sequence together showing the transformation cycle. I think I now have about every stage!
