Well the south of England closed down today…
A blackbird early this morning

And a female greenfinch

This afternoon, the horses were out in the fields

And the South Down walks were picturesque

Around the time of the previous photo, I saw an interesting bird fly past. I followed it to a nearby mast where it had landed.
Can you see what it is?

Well I was astounded….
A wooden woodpecker!

Clearly that wasn't the bird I'd seen fly in that direction. I moved to the other side of the tower.
That's more like it. A kestrel

And no winter scene would be complete without a robin.
Winter robin

There are several fox tracks criss-crossing the garden, but the fox itself remains elusive. Odds are it's been through the garden while I've been here typing this.

  1. Wow isnt it beautiful all this snow! I took photos in Hotham Park yesterday, the Squirrells seemed to stay in the Dreys nice and warm hehe. 😛

Hope its ok to get to work today as it was rather slippery yesterday…… i was taking a trolley of tea and coffee to a function and then said i couldnt do it after it started skidding all the time lol!

  2. It's very pretty isn't it, but very slippery too. It should be ok to get in to work, though I'll probably go in slightly late to give the roads a chance to ease up. It's like a skating rink outside at the moment, but we didn't get any more snow.

  3. great photos. I like the blackbird on the fence

  4. Great photos! The snow is providing some wonderful photo opportunities for you people in England!

  5. 😆 Hey, I know that woodpecker! I last saw it in Bodmin 😉 but I'm glad that it hasn't actually taken to flying around. That would be quite disturbing.

Great shot of the kestrel. I'm still marooned. Trains are shut down and the roads are very dangerous.

  6. Beautiful photo of a robin

  7. Neil, thanks! Slightly soft that shot but it was grabbed while I was still waking up!

  8. Thanks Darko! I was pleased finally to get a robin with a little bit of snow in the picture.

  9. Lois, it's all too brief and rare an opportunity. We all revert to childhood for a day or so 😀

  10. Adele, it was a late start here today (our road was an ice rink until mid morning, but most of the snow on the roads had gone by lunchtime. The kestrel had a good vantage point up there… must beat hovering when prey is hard to find.

  11. Wow, so much snow. The robin is very good- such a perfect setting 🙂

  12. Brendan, it only lasted two days here. Some parts have been covered for a week, which is almost unheard of in England.

  13. Beautiful winter wonderland photos

  14. Thanks Christine!

  15. That has to be the nearest to a perfect photo of a robin as Ive seen

  16. No probs, I even fixed my spelling 😀

  17. Thanks Sprogger!
