After the long weekend it was obvious I was going to head back to Falmer Pond to check out all the young life. The moorhen chicks are still doing well, but photographically the greylag goslings stole the show, even in the early morning drizzle.

It eventually brightened up, so I was able to get a few more shots later in the day.

Two more photos to complete today’s entry. The first is just a nice shot of a blackbird fluffing its feathers.

And I still think the pond rats are cute 😉

  1. I should check out the local park soon for goslings myself.

It truly surprises me to see rats in the daytime where you are. If a rat was ever spotted in the daytime in my area, it means there is a population explosion!

    1. Andy, there are probably a fair few rats about but generally I do see them in the day. It was the same when I was working in London and would visit Regent’s Park. Admittedly they are always in rural or parkland areas where people feed ducks. Plentiful food (but only during the day).

  2. Yay blackbirds! This year they’re prospering again in Bucharest, after being unnoticeable in 2013, and I love it. Remember when blackbirds could only be found far in the wilderness, and it was quite something to hear one sing?

    1. Felix, we have plenty of blackbirds here. They are among our most common garden bird. I can hear them calling and fighting over territory every evening at this time of year. I’m glad they are doing well again in Bucharest.

  3. That gosling on a 4th photo have a personality 😛

    1. Darko, the tall one at the back? Yes, he’s certainly got a face on him!

  4. No terrapins at Falmer any more?

    1. dW, sadly the terrapins are around. There’s one in a post coming up fairly soon.
