The warm weather continues and it was a perfect day to head down to Brighton Marina. I wanted to take the walk along the outer wall, but it was closed for repair. Not surprising really given all the terrible recent weather, but a shame as the sea birds tend to congregate along there. Still there's always the pub, which was where I took this from.

And this…

That left us with a choice of walking the 2 or so miles to Rottingdean (and back), or taking the lazy option of getting on a boat for a scenic tour of the coastline. So that's what we did. Brighton's beaches were heaving. it's not where I'd want to be on a steaming hot day, but I guess I'm getting old.

The view in the opposite direction was a stark, but wonderfully calming, contrast.

As for the bird life, it was quiet out there today. A few gulls, a lone fulmar, and a scattering of cormorants. This pair are crossing the line of a tall ship, which is probably used for cadet training.

Several cormies were also perched along the remains of the West Pier.

And then back to the Marina where this boat made me smile.

  1. Having just watched my old copy of Les Vacances de M. Hulot, your shot of hoi polloi on the beach just threw me into a fit of laughter, Words …
    Thanks!

  2. It was bedlam on the beach (and the roads). Brighton excels in crowd scenes when the sun shines.

  3. Crowded beaches are just not for me anymore. Screaming kids, nervous people, garbage, insects,….. :insane:

  4. I know what you mean, Dare … When my friend in Seattle told me that her in-laws had taken her, her husband, and her four kids to Disneyland for two weeks, all I could say was "All those people? In one place? For TWO WEEKS? I'da shot somebody for sure!"

  5. Boat owners have a unique sense of humor.

  6. Mick, that photo is too small, what does it say?

    Thanks!

  9. I love the tall ships. Modern boats just don't have the same charm.

If I were kept on a beach like that for more than ten minutes, I'd probably go insane.

  10. Handling a square-rigged tall ship has always fascinated me … I've handled (skippered) tall ships with fore-and-aft rigs, and they're easy enough, but the square rigger? … I know some of the theory, but it's not exactly part of my instincts. They ARE beautiful to look at, though.

  11. Mick, nice one! 😆

  12. Adele, the tall ship looked very graceful in such calm water. I did get some in focus shots as well, but that ghostly soft focus was more in keeping with what we could see.

  13. Darko, I'm with you. I try to avoid crowds whenever possible.

  14. dW, you've lost me with the technical details but I am very impressed that you've skippered one of these (even with a different rig). Respect!

  15. dW, LOL! I've never understood theme parks. Too many people, but I guess my kind of place would go of business in a moment.
