The warm weather continues and it was a perfect day to head down to Brighton Marina. I wanted to take the walk along the outer wall, but it was closed for repair. Not surprising really given all the terrible recent weather, but a shame as the sea birds tend to congregate along there. Still there's always the pub, which was where I took this from.
And this…
That left us with a choice of walking the 2 or so miles to Rottingdean (and back), or taking the lazy option of getting on a boat for a scenic tour of the coastline. So that's what we did. Brighton's beaches were heaving. it's not where I'd want to be on a steaming hot day, but I guess I'm getting old.
The view in the opposite direction was a stark, but wonderfully calming, contrast.
As for the bird life, it was quiet out there today. A few gulls, a lone fulmar, and a scattering of cormorants. This pair are crossing the line of a tall ship, which is probably used for cadet training.
Several cormies were also perched along the remains of the West Pier.
And then back to the Marina where this boat made me smile.

If I were kept on a beach like that for more than ten minutes, I'd probably go insane.

29 Jul 2012Handling a square-rigged tall ship has always fascinated me … I've handled (skippered) tall ships with fore-and-aft rigs, and they're easy enough, but the square rigger? … I know some of the theory, but it's not exactly part of my instincts. They ARE beautiful to look at, though.
