Another day, another surprise. There were four of them… three males and a female tufted duck enjoying the early morning sunshine on Falmer Pond. Clearly passing through (they were gone by lunchtime, but they were a delight to see.

At the edge of the pond a pair of the local rats had found some seed scattered on a rock.

And later in the day, the eight little greylag goslings feasted on plant matter growing on a submerged rock.

And then up on to the bank for a well-earned rest.

  1. The graylag goslings are a delight, and the rats are looking busy. Very handsome shots of the tufted ducks.

    1. dW, thanks! I love the goslings and the way the parents guard them so well. The tufted ducks were a pleasant change from the usual species locally.

  2. Interesting kind of ducks. I checked our field guide on birds and didn’t find anything like that even though they look kind of similar to ring-necked ducks and some goldeneyes.

    1. Darko, I had to check their name (goldeneyes were another option on my list!).

  3. I thought I commented on this? But apparently not. Do I have anything astounding to add, nope! lol. 🙂

    1. Andy, lol 😆 And thanks for whatever it was you thought you had said!
