The weather is turning. The nights are closing in, and the sunshine is increasingly being replaced by the wet stuff. But the real proof that autumn is here is that the squirrels are busy squirrelling for nuts and seeds in the undergrowth. These were taken at lunchtime today, but the tree canopy was doing a fine job of filtering out the weakening sun. All the photos were taken at ISO 1600, which with care gave just enough shutter speed (but only just).

  1. These are wonderful photos that capture the character of these creatures. I know they are not our beloved reds, but I do not live in an environment conducive to other than grays. Squirrels are such an autumnal marker for me, out and busy burying acorns and nibbling hazel nuts.

    1. Aurora, thanks! I’d think differently perhaps if we did have reds locally, but I do like our greys (in the absence of any reds conceivably being seen here).

  2. I like when they pay attention to you, considering are you a threat or not 😀

    1. Darko, these ones are moderately ok with people. Not quite as bold as the ones in city parks, but not as shy as true woodland squirrels.
