The day started with heavy mists so these shots are all from later in the day when the sun was beginning to emerge from behind a layer of low cloud. During the 20 minutes or so I had, the light improved quite a bit, but this first shot was taken in the gloom. It's a pair of mistle thrush, a medium-sized noisy bird with a distinctive rattle-like call.

The pond though, is about cormorants at the moment and as if to show that anything a mere thrush can manage so can they, a few moments later one of the local cormorants headed for the treetops.

With luck the new trail camera will arrive tomorrow so I'll be able to catch up with what the foxes are getting up to. In the meantime here's a shot of Shutterbug taken earlier this evening.

  1. I'm surprised the limb didn't break. LOL
The thrushes are especially nice … it has an Oriental feel to it.

  2. That last cormorant picture is just WOW! Well done

Can't wait to see shots/videos taken with a new trail cam :wait:

  3. Shutterbug is looking very winter-proof in his coat.

  4. Adele, I love the way they change through the year, but this is easily the best part of the year for photos (though not the easiest time to get them).

  5. Sami, thanks! I was waiting and hoping that the cormorant would eventually move. It's always good of them to keep still but eventually a little movement helps!

  6. dW, the limbs do break occasionally.

The strange light helps the thrush image. It is reminiscent of oriental paintings.
