The day has been book-ended by fog. It was dense this morning, and tonight the mists are rolling back over the hills. The outlook for tomorrow will be measured in metres. These sheep were photographed was early this morning.

The middle part of the day was great. Sunny, and relatively warm. I didn't venture far, but did spot a green woodpecker (female) high in one of the surrounding trees.

The highlight though came at the end of the day. I'd stopped briefly by Friston Forest (which is adjacent to Seven Sisters Country Park) and spotted a small colony of egrets and herons. I was some way off so these may be more impressionistic than precise, but in the first shot there are four of each species.

This one was taken from a little closer, but it's still a fairly hefty crop.

It was difficult to get a decent vantage point close up, and the egrets were hanging back away from my roadside location, but I did manage to sneak a couple of shots of herons.

The last shot of the day was taken as I headed back to the car. I startled a rabbit in the undergrowth and caught this shot as it bounded away into dense cover.

  1. Nice ones, Words! I especially like the sheep.

  2. dW, misty mornings with a hint of sun peering through does make for nice atmospheric shots. Thanks!

  3. I am amazed that you managed to make that rabbit photo sharp even though it was running away from you :eyes:

  4. Darko, the camera tracks the movement so it should stay sharp most of the time.

  5. I like the angle on the woodpecker. On another note, it feels like spring today (and looks like summer!)

  6. Adele, I really struggled to get any shot of the woodpecker. It was being typically evasive, but made a momentary error and just about slipped into view. It's still remarkably cold for spring, but at least it's sunny and dry. I can cope with that.
