Nothing too spectacular today, just a few of the more common birds that frequent the fields and woodlands around here. The first is by far the largest of them, a pheasant out grazing in a field early this morning.

A blackbird was flitting among the trees and paused briefly on the ruins of a farm building.

Next is a dunnock, which somehow has adopted an expression that I can only describe as 'squashed'.

I'm not even sure if you'll be able to see this next one. This is at 400mm zoom, but uncropped.

This one might make things a little easier.

And if you are still struggling, here's a closer shot of a long-tailed tit. Such pretty little things; not shy, but obsessively committed to making themselves as difficult to photograph as possible.

There are several foxes passing through the garden, but only Shutterbug will tolerate the camera. Here he is in a woodland corner of the garden.

Camera note: all shots taken with the Canon 7D and EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM IS lens, apart from the fox which was photographed with the EF70-300mm 4.5-5.6 DO IS lens.

  1. Good to see he is living up to his name.

  2. I saw pheasant in a park near Danube, few months ago. I was in a bus when it stopped on red light and it was so unexpected that after few moments I realised half of the people in a bus were looking at him 😀

  3. Thanks Erwin!

  4. Darko, pheasants are such striking birds, I'm not surprised that everyone stared. It's certainly unusual to see them in cities!

  5. Mick, he's a very frequent visitor at the moment I'm pleased to say. 🙂

  6. Nice series 🙂 That dunnock could almost pass for a small owl! 🙂

  7. Adele, thanks! I agree about the dunnock, but I'd have been shouting a lot louder if it had been an owl!

  8. Very nice selection!

  9. Thanks Lois!

  10. Nice Pict
