Today proved a good day for the birds…
A long-tailed tit feeding, early in the morning

At lunchtime I headed out to a more distant field. I was in search of a woodpecker… a great spotted woodpecker.
And I found the female 🙂

Heading back to work, I came across an unexpected treat. Two buzzards were circling a rookery…

The rooks eventually saw them off…

Back at home, much more prosaic bird… a blackbird (female).

Wow, the backbird caught just leaping into flight! Excellent.

  3. the first shot is my favourite- very 'poetic' and beautiful

  4. Anon, thanks!

  5. Darko, I love moments like that. And it took off exactly in focus (not forward nor back, but in a straight line… that's so unusual!)

  6. Thanks Erwin!

  7. Jill, I had clearer shots of the long-tailed tit, but I liked the 'shade' of that shot. It was taken into the sun so the light was tricky.

  8. Oh I remember that one, but I can't find it right now!

  9. Amazing blackbird jump

  10. Icrzas, thanks! A lucky moment. It was sitting still when I started photographing it.

  11. I remember one of your old photos, I think it was crow or a magpie jumping on the stairs. This one reminded me on that 😀

  12. Found it!

  13. Adele had mentioned to me that you had great action shots of birds, so I thought I'd drop by for a look. Very glad that I did. 😀 Really enjoyed the photos in this post, especially the hopping birds (including the one you posted in the comments). But all were great.

  14. That`s the one

  15. A very good day indeed. Exceptionsl photos! Your action shots are excellent!

  16. Circling a rookery – really, they were asking for trouble! :right:

    Wonderful photos!

  17. Adele, they were back mob-handed yesterday… four of them circling around with a peregrine acting as look-out!

  18. Lois thanks… if the light is good it's not too tricky. I just take lots of shots and occasionally they happen to move 😉

  19. Thanks Deb… I've been having fun with bird spotting lately. It's a good time of year for it, and today proved extra special.

  20. Darko, yes… it took a bit of hunting out but I found it.

  21. Some nice sightings, and that blackbird pose is great!!

  22. Thanks Neil!

  23. Excellent Photos
