Catching Up

I've been struggling to keep up with myself for the past week, so today is another selection box from the past couple of days. I'll start with this shot taken on Thursday of a pair of female broad-bodied chasers over the pond. A damselfly flew into the shot, adding a dash of extra colour.

I can't do the sound effects, but a male crow was calling raucously while I was watching the dragonflies. He eventually came into view and offered a quick photo opportunity.

This morning saw one of my favourite small birds take centre stage. It's a linnet, and it was happily singing away in the sunshine.

A pair of jackdaws were taking an early morning refreshment at one of the ornamental ponds.

At lunchtime I wandered back out to the buzzard field. Once again a pair were in the vicinity, but the best shots were of one of them being mobbed by a pair of crows.

Back on terra firma a lone fox cut across the field. I've seen very few foxes out in the fields this year, so it was a welcome surprise to see one out in the middle of the day.

And of course there are foxes in the garden. Or to be precise there's the Cheeky Young Vixen in the garden…

Camera note: The dragonflies and crow were taken with the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM IS lens. The linnet, fox in the field, jackdaw and buzzard were taken with the EF 400mm f/5.6L USM lens. Both fox photos were taken with the EF 24-105 F4L IS USM lens.

Great series of shots. Looks like Cheeky is going to give Bold a run for her money!

I live in North America, and I am totally unfamiliar with your birds. I love being introduced to new ones. I was very charmed by the linnet; it's very cute. 🙂

Lovely linnet and that jackdaw clearly has good taste to be drinking at such a pretty pond!

I haven't seen many meadow foxes either.

So there are! But they've positioned themselves well so that their head markings overlap!

Robin, yes Cheeky is making a bid for ownership of the garden though she still gets on well with her mum 😉

Adele if you look closely you'll see there are two jackdaws there: synchronized drinking 😉

Deb, I'm always amazed at the variety and colour of North American birds. Ours seem quite plain in comparison. The linnet is very pretty song bird.

Adele, they were bobbing up and down together for a minute or so 🙂

Mark, thanks. She's becoming quite a regular these days. I still occasionally see some of the other foxes, but she's there most of the time.
