A beautiful winter sun heralded the shortest day of the year (but not the 'end of the world'). It was one of those mornings when you expect the unexpected. A pheasant, looking for a vantage point, perches on a roof.

A black-headed gull guards the 'No Fishing' sign.

And then the fun begins. A small group of cormorants were fishing at the far end of the pond. Their target? The local carp.
A cormorant surfaces with fish

A second cormorant spies easy pickings

A tussle ensues

The carp makes a break…

A cormorant lunges to retrieve it

The end is inevitable

  1. It nearly managed to get away with all the distraction of the other bird; but not quite. If this goes on too long the pond will run out of fish 🙁

  2. 😆 I thought carp escaped, at the moment 😀

  3. Thanks Andy!

  4. Great moments

  5. LOL

  6. What manners! They're gulls by any other name.

  7. Adele, I'm not sure even the greediest gulls could compete with these once they get going.

  8. dW,
