A rather nice garden sighting today… a fieldfare. These are large thrushes which generally stay well away from human habitat, except in severe weather when the local countryside is snow-clad. In such conditions, as we have now, they venture into gardens and parks looking for food (berries in particular). I spotted this one briefly on a shrub (where it may have found the odd berry), before it hopped into the trees and away.

  1. Nice bit of luck, combined with keen attention.

  2. dW, I was pleased to spot this little chap. I believe it may be the first I've seen in the garden.

  3. Nice Pict

  4. Thanks Erwin!

  5. Always a bonus to see. I've hardly seen any winter thrushes this year, at least compared to last year in Norwich.

  6. Adele, I've seen a few in various locations, but always singletons and no flocks. It does seem a quiet year for them.
