Well it's been raining for 8 or 9 hours now, and shows no sign of letting up so the one certain thing is that I won't be photographing any foxes today. The day started well enough though. There were blue skies, white fluffy clouds, and a hint of warmth. Add to that a green woodpecker with its idiosyncratic bouncing flight plan coming across the pond at a modestly low speed.
Camera note: all shots taken with the Canon 7D and EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM IS lens.

13 Jul 2012Andy, I just saw it emerge from the trees on the far side of the pond. Flight path was near perfect for me.

18 Jul 2012Very nice shots. I saw three green woodpeckers this morning – fledgling and parents, I guess. But a tricky species to capture in flight.

19 Jul 2012Adele, they are usually much away when I do manage to photograph them in flight. I was just lucky that for once (and probably entirely in error) it chose to fly in my direction.
