Well it's been raining for 8 or 9 hours now, and shows no sign of letting up so the one certain thing is that I won't be photographing any foxes today. The day started well enough though. There were blue skies, white fluffy clouds, and a hint of warmth. Add to that a green woodpecker with its idiosyncratic bouncing flight plan coming across the pond at a modestly low speed.

  1. Difficult shots to obtain.

  2. As Archimedes, Merlyn's familiar owl, said to the Wart (the future King Arthur), "Stop flying like a woodpecker!"

  3. Like a rocket 😀

  4. Andy, I just saw it emerge from the trees on the far side of the pond. Flight path was near perfect for me.

  5. dW, that's such a good line!

  6. Darko, like a bouncing rocket 😀

  7. Very nice shots. I saw three green woodpeckers this morning – fledgling and parents, I guess. But a tricky species to capture in flight.

  8. Adele, they are usually much away when I do manage to photograph them in flight. I was just lucky that for once (and probably entirely in error) it chose to fly in my direction.
