Last night's post opens with the words "It's been a quiet week here fox-wise". Within half an hour of typing that, the foxes decided to prove a point. At around midnight I peered outside and saw some movement near the rear of the garden.
Look to the far left

Even from a distance the cautious movement indicated that this was one of the vixens. Taking care not to startle her I ventured further into garden and was rewarded with her pausing briefly before disappearing through the fence.
The shy vixen

On closer examination of the photo it turned out to be the vixen with the distinctive nick in her ear. I've relatively few pictures of her, but there are some better ones in this entry from the end of last year. As she vanished through the fence I turned to go inside. Unnoticed, the old dog fox had been lurking near the washing pole (just a few feet away from where I'd been standing).

As ever, he explored the garden. Judging by the look of him he was none too impressed with some of the changes.

Throughout, I could here the vixen moving on the far side of the fence. She didn't reappear, though she did attract the old fox's attention.
Listening to the vixen

And that was more or less that! He took the most direct route out of the garden.
Exeunt

  1. Vulpes… very possibly!

  2. Hi Artem! I'm sure you have foxes in Kiev, but maybe they're shy.

  3. Pity that this is not seen in Kiyv))
    Fourth photo is great ;)

  4. Amusing sequence of shots there! I wonder if "love is in the air"? :flirt:

  5. Nice shots, but I feel the light from the flash makes yours shots quite flat, as a solution I suggest you read: http://strobist.blogspot.com/ and get the whole Strobist idea.

Getting your flash off camera, and placing it somewhere would be quite a good idea, I think. All you need is wireless triggers, and luckily they are quite cheap, so I suggest you think about it.

  6. Love the shot of the dogfox with the washing pole – he looks like an inquisitive cat! :cat:

  7. Ramunas, there's a lot I need to learn about using flash. I've only had a semi-decent flash unit for a month. Being able to set up off-camera flash points is on the long list. One of the problems is that the foxes don't keep to one place, so an off camera light would be facing in the wrong diirection a lot of the time. But I'm sure I can experiment with on-camera settings, either by bouncing the flash (if they're near a suitable wall), using the diffuser, or playing with the manual settings a bit more. Much to learn!

  8. Adele, I usually clone the pole out of shots (it would be in the background of so many otherwise), but yes that's a very feline gesture he's making. :cat:

  9. 💡 There nice, go to cabela's look into the trail cameras. they arent cheap but you can get flashless ones. they use nignt vision and during the day there regular! Thet work good to.

  10. Lovelly pics:D I wonder where Roofy has gone, maybe he might come back one day?
