It's been raining solidly most of the evening here, so my forays into the garden have been limited. I don't mind a bit of rain, but I fear for the camera if the weather's too harsh. But I was tempted out just before 11pm. By loud and continuous screaming. Foxes! No doubt about it.

I couldn't see them (the noise was coming from a neighbouring garden), but we are now bang slap in the middle of the mating season. Whether or not that's what I heard I can't be sure. After a few minutes, the sounds ceased and a familiar face appeared from the side of the house. Coincidence? Possibly. There's more than one fox around here, and he wasn't telling. But it gave me a chance to grab a few quick photos which I've added to the Fox Watch 2008 album.

Camera note: all shots taken with the EF 24-105 F4L IS USM lens and Canon 430EX flash unit. Experimentally, the flash was angled about 45 degrees off-centre (see discussion in the comments on this post).

  7. He looks like hes saying, "screaming? was i really that loud?" "ok ok then i was, lets do some more posing then iam off to scream at my vixen again" 😆

  8. Adele, possibly a family trait? Roofy (grandson? son? both????) had the same expression at times.

  9. Mark, you may be right. 😆
