Only one photo today.

Much of the rest of my time has been taken up with trying to figure out 'colour management'. I've just treated myself to a new wide gamut calibrated monitor (Dell u2410). The 24" screen is great (and huge compared to my previous 19" monitor) but I'm currently having teething (knowledge) problems with getting the best out of it by utilizing its ability to work in Adobe RGB colour, but with the need to convert finished output to sRGB for web presentation. The impact of changing colour space is remarkable, but using the wrong combinations can result in over (or under) saturated images. I'm slowly getting there, but expect some odd errors over the next few days as I get to grips with it.

Over the weekend I may try to create some sample shots showing just how different images appear in different applications and with different settings. The aim of course is to reproduce accurate colour which means understanding how the different settings (and applications) interact. It would also be nice to get out to take some photos, but that depends on what the weather decides to do!

And now for the photo… from the trail cam taken at around 9.30 this morning. This one is definitely not a colour test shot.

  4. Lois, thanks!

  5. Darko, thanks. It's a small indulgence, but given the amount of time I spend in front of it I thought I may as well have something comfortable to work with.

  6. dW, thanks! I'm making progress. The New Year's Day post should at least look ok on most web browsers.

  7. Congrats on the new monitor!

I haven't got any new kit but technical support (my father) has attended to my laptop, which is no longer overheating and crashing

  8. Adele, thanks. I have to say it makes a difference being able to see the image I'm editing. Glad to hear your laptop is feeling better!

  9. Sami, I'll come and take a look (I think I am already a passive member 😉 )

  10. Erwin, I can take very little credit for this one!

  11. A great shot
