Just a short entry tonight. More from Regent's Park in central London. Away from the lakes, the general impression is that there are lots of pigeons, crows and magpies, with the occasional gull adding a splash of white. And of course blackbirds and tits flitting in the trees. There are other birds though, and this first one caught my eye from a distance. It was pecking on a large area of grass near the playing fields. It wasn't a pigeon, but it was impossible to be certain what it was without moving closer. Which I did. And managed a few shots of this mistle thrush, busy hunting for worms.

Heading back to work, a more vivid flash of movement caused me to divert briefly. A green woodpecker. Unmistakeable, and unusually bold. No-one else noticed it.

That's all for tonight… early start in the morning.
Camera note: both shots taken with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ45

  3. woodpeckers are such a satisfying catch. Only second to an owl, in my opinion.

  6. Richard, I would love to see an owl. They do inhabit the park, so I may be lucky one day.

  7. Erwin, thanks!

  8. Adele, thanks! It did do the usual trick of hiding behind the trunk, but I was persistent and kept edging round, slightly faster than it could sidle sideways 😉

  9. Sami, thanks! I was very happy to see the woodpecker. 🙂
