One of the irregular sightings I have on my way to work is a peahen. I've seen her before, but there's always something startling about coming across such a large bird wandering along a country lane. She was out this morning and I stopped to take a few shots. I think she must belong to one of the local farms, but is free-roaming and likes a morning stroll.

By my car

I headed back in that general direction at lunchtime. The peahen wasn't around, but the horses were out in the paddocks. This one had taken a fancy to a fence post.

Overhead the swallows were active, enjoying the sunshine and perhaps signalling an early start to summer.

And no, I hadn't noticed the insect when I took the shot. It was a nice surprise though to find it on the sequence.

  1. Did peahen tried to attack your car? :insane:

Swallow with that insect is a realy nice one to catch  And the way her tail feathers are spread shows a great manouverability those birds have 🙂

  2. Your shots of the swallow leave me in awe. Have tried to capture a number of different swallows and the closest I can get is them sitting on a telephone line!

  3. Yes, very nice shot of the swallow and the bug that it is pursuing!

As for the peahen – I think they're a little dangerous, as I've said before  She must startle the local wildlife though!

  4. The swallow and insect shot is a great action shot. good stuff

  5. Beautiful shots! The swallow and the bug is amazing!

  6. Wonderful photos as usual!! It is a pleasure to look at them every time! I had Peacocks for a couple of years ago, one mail and two hens, and there was a very loud level of the noice, I can promise you that!!!:yikes: They where exelent watchdogs. noone came by without beeing noticed! and every time my neighbor started to sing and play the guitar the screamed as loud as they could! but they where not agressive, what I can remember!

  7. Thanks Neil!

  8. Darko, no I wondered if whe would, but I think they are more likely to attack cars if they see their reflection. My car isn't quite that clean 😉

  9. LOL!

  10. Thanks Lois!

  11. Agneta, how lovely to have kept a peacock and hens 😀 I can believe with the noise they make that they'd be excellent watchdogs. I don't really think they're aggressive. 😉

  12. Robin, I've twisted myself in knots in trying to photograph them in the past. Swifts can be even trickier as they tend to fly in close, giving even less time to get a fix on them.

  13. I don't really think they're aggressive

Unless you have a blueberry muffin that they desire 😉 :yikes:

  14. Adele, a lucky catch with the bug. I'm sure the local wildlife is used to the peahen. I haven't seen her mate for a while though. There was one around, lurking in the woods at the back of car park a year or so back.

  15. 😆 Do kids from neighbourhood leave a messages on it? 😆

  16. 😆 The peahen is charming, the swallow is a cutie… but the horse shot is incredible!!! What a catch 😆 Lunchtime for everybody!

  17. Thanks Anna!

  18. Darko… they wouldn't dare!
