I’ve been quiet on here recently, but finally got some good photo time today and went off to Sheepcote Valley in search of the local short eared owl. I’ve been looking out for it most mornings since the original sighting a week or so ago, but without any luck. Today I went for the other end of the day, and my luck was in. I had an early distant glimpse and was then pointed in the right direction by some helpful hikers.

These are a small sample.

As well as these there are many more photos from today over on a new Short Eared Owl album.

  1. Beautiful bird and a very nice photos!!! I like 3rd and 4th the best!

    1. Darko, thanks! I’m so chuffed to have a local owl. I’ve been keeping my eyes open for years now. This one seems to be a bit of a regular locally so I hope to have many more encounters.

      1. My colleague, a birder and photographer, told me today about some owl on a trail some 10km from where we live. Owls are kind of rare in Vancouver area, so no wonder there were about 50 photographers watching it yesterday…
