I was going to post these last night, but technical issues (now fixed) prevented me logging on. So slightly late, but just as 'slugly' as I intended.
First up is a shot of some new fungi that have appeared, neatly in the gap between the glistening inkcaps and the rooting shank shown in the previous post.
The slug munching away is a leopard slug (Limax maximus, which has one of the most bizarre mating rituals in the animal world).
The other common garden slug is the 'large red slug' (Arion rufus). I caught this one clambering up a plant stem.
And my favourite shot, the red slug competing with a garden snail for the best munching site :chef:
Not (sl)ugly at all!
Camera note: all shots taken with the Canon 40D and EF 100mm f/2.8L macro IS USM lens.

11 Sep 2010Darko, thanks! I took several frames to try to get the depth of field needed for the last shot. Too good a composition to miss.

11 Sep 2010Mark, I think they're pretty. I really should photograph them more often (and at least they don't run away!)

12 Sep 2010Not a common choice of subject on Opera! But, as you say, they're quite handsome in closeup.

LMAO because I have spent time on my knees chasing critters with a macro lens.

13 Sep 2010Rick, even slugs can shift at a surprising rate of knots… but anything with legs can be a real challenge at times.
