Just a few shots from the garden… and look away now if you don't like spiders. these are up close and personal!

First the garden spider (Araneus diadematus), probably the most commonly seen of all our spiders. These are the ones that form those wonderfully elaborate webs.

The house spider (Tegenaria gigantea) is the one that sends otherwise sane adults running screaming from rooms :yikes: I don't mind them, but I do prefer it when they take up residence outside the house… as this one has. It's created its (very messy) web in some ivy overhanging a wall. The web is more of a low hammock. The spider lurks at the rear of the web, ready to pounce on unsuspecting prey. It's a fearsome looking creature close up.

  1. I`ve seen garden spider few days ago in a center of its web. Touched it with my finger and it wasn`t too happy about that :left:

    :awww:

  2. Yes, good to see a house spider outside! Excellent photos.

I've had a sudden invasion of daddy-long-leg spiders here, which is probably keeping the usual house spider intruders at bay.

  3. Darko, they're not keen on being touched, but if you flick a small piece of leaf on to the web they'll run down to clear it away 😉

  4. Adele, I think we've got some of those indoors as well. I've just been reading up on them. I hadn't realized they devoured house spiders for fun! :bug:

  5. Erwin, thanks!

  6. Interesting photos great
