It's the end of the week, and I fear also the end of my trail cam! It's outside now, but the charger fell apart this evening. I could replace it, but the battery is slowly on the way out too (it doesn't hold a charge for as long as it should), and the off switch hasn't worked for over a year. Given the relatively low quality of the video it's probably time to hunt out a replacement.

In the meantime here are a couple of new faces from Regent's Park.
Red crested pochard

Tufted duck

I'll skip the herons today, but the squirrels were as cooperative as ever…

As was this jay…

Still no decent fox sightings, though I did glimpse one from the train this evening. It was wandering across the sidings about half a mile north of Brighton Station… a beautifully 'urban fox' moment and one I would love to have caught on camera… but darkness and a moving train are not a good combination.

  1. Lovely shots. The Pochard is very pretty!

  2. Another squirrel-hedgehog hybrid! :eyes:

It's a shame that it's so hard to get photos from the train, as you say. By the way, if your train back to the south goes through the Purley area, keep a watch out – I saw a fox carrying a pigeon along a platform there once!

  3. Jay looks with anticipation. Did you have some bird seeds to share? 😀

  4. what a lovely end of the week

  5. Thanks Rania!

  6. Darko, no I didn't have any food with me for them, but there was plenty of natural forage on the ground where I was standing. Maybe it was worried I'd steal it 😉

  7. Adele, maybe the squirrels realize how few hedgehogs I've seen this year and are trying to make up for it. :right: I try to keep an eye out for foxes on the train journey. We do pass through Purley, but at high speed. I'll try to keep my eyes open next time.

  8. Robin, thanks. The pochards are angelic little things

  9. Thanks Erwin!

  10. Lovely shots
