Three of One

There were three cormorants on the pond this morning, which in these parts counts as a flock. Two of them were swimming on the far side of the pond in hopelessly dismal. It was hardly much brighter on my side of the pond, but a stationary subject is easier to photograph, and at least I was clear of the deep shade cast by the trees.

As for the other pair… here's what I did manage, but really only included as a reminder that there were in fact three cormorants on the pond.

I have to confess I'm not a big fan of cormorants but surely you make them look very nice Words

Some peeps in Finland have been somewhat worried because of rapidly growing cormorant population http://www.ymparisto.fi/default.asp?contentid=390720&lan=en

But according one article in Finnish there's nothing to worry about because cormorant also have started to have their natural predators to keep the population down.

Sami, thanks for that link about cormorants. They are not always popular here either, especially with anglers.

Mick, it''s a whole different story by Brighton Marina. There are loads of them there, out on the sea wall.

dW, thanks! The conditions aren't particularly good at the moment, but the cormorant was keeping its body still, which helped.

Such strange birds. There are a pair of them on the UEA broad but I haven't seen three there (yet). There was a common tern feeding there when I was an undergrad though – it's a strange place :right:
