The threatened heavy snow stayed away, but high in the hills the roads remain frozen and my car is staying put for the time being. Which meant a long walk into town today.

I was heading for Hove (actually) and set off at around 7.45 on foot. By 8.00 I'd reached the main road where buses were running, though not as frequently as I might have wished.

So I walked on. In fact several buses did pass me, but the air was still and I had plenty of time. And I wanted to see one of my favourite views to the sea.

I was enjoying the fresh air (I was well wrapped up against the elements) and by this time I was nearing the racecourse. I tramped along the race track (the nearest thing to level ground up here)

Which is where the kestrels hang.

Given the distance, and not especially good light, I switched to video. That's mainly the sea in the background, by the way.

I eventually made it into Brighton, just after 9.00. This is St Peter's Church, a grand looking fake built in Victorian times and sited slap in what is normally the middle of one of the busiest junctions in the city.

I may well have to walk tomorrow, but only as far as the bus. The thaw is coming, but it's slow. Maybe Wednesday things will be back to something approaching normal life.

  1. Nice walk  Thank you for taking us with you 🙂

  2. Nice photos, i have been staying in Bognor a lot but the snow has mostly thawed now which is good.

  3. Been in the news here

  4. Enjoyed the video. Must have been tough for sight-hunters lately. I haven't seen a kestrel around here for ages.

I managed to get into London today! On an unheated train, but one cannot have everything, I guess :smurf:

  5. Adele, I was pleased to see the kestrel. Made the trek worthwhile.

Sorry to hear that you got the unheated train this morning. I caught a 'short' train, but managed to get a seat at least. Almost certainly one more day of walking to the bus, unless something dramatic happens overnight.

  6. Andy, the country is in a minor state of chaos with the weather. Long distance travel is at a stand-still.

  7. Sami, thanks. It was a good walk to do and I was really quite warm by the end of it!

  8. Erwin, thanks! If I'd had more time I'd have gone to see if the kestrel had caught anything.

  9. Mark, we do seem to have escaped the very worst on the South Coast. It's been fun, but I hope it thaws soon. My car is still going nowhere. At the time of day I use it, the road is a sheet of ice.

  10. Very nice, a great video of the female kestrel
