A Very Wet New Year

It's not been a great start to the year, weather-wise. Rain, rain, and more rain just about sums it up. It was not much better yesterday, (New Year's Eve); but 'not much' was enough to take the camera down to Rottingdean and see what was lurking in the grey. The sea was 'heavy', and the tide was in.

And this being Rottingdean, the fulmars were abundant.

The cormorants were keeping further out to sea, but a small group did venture slightly closer to the shore.

And right on the shoreline, a lone oystercatcher came in to feed among the herring gulls.

Just before I left, the sun briefly showed beneath the cloud bank.

The sun hasn't been seen since! It would be really nice if we could have it back. Please! 😉

Oh, and of course, a Very Happy New Year! :hat:

    Yes!
    Happy New Year!
You're experiencing roughly the weather we're getting, over here in the same latitudes … we ought to be hip-deep in snow by now, but all we're getting is chilly rains … and clouds, clouds, clouds.

Happy New Year!! What you missed in sunshine, I think you made up for with those dramatic waves and the beautiful sunset!

Happy new year! The weather was quite appalling here too. Today, however, there isn't a cloud in the sky! (Or a fox to be seen…)

dW, the weather is certainly a lot milder than last year. I'm not a fan of the rain though. Cold and clear would be fine by me. And Happy New Year!

Adele, the New Year weather seems all over the place. Absolutely terrible here today. I hope you did manage to see some foxes over the break!

Saw three last night during my spotlighting survey over the local park and heard a fourth, but photographs are out of the question in that situation. It's almost a monsoon in the North Downs today. I miss those bright cold January mornings! 🙁

Adele, hopefully the wet weather will clear away. December has proved a very poor month. It wasn't even particularly cold. Glad you managed to track some foxes.

That first shot, with those slaty colours, makes me think of old Ektachrome-X.

dW, I'm not really familiar with film stocks but I liked the grainy feel to that shot. I did enhance the red jacket slightly (probably not quite enough) to give some impact/contrast.
