It won't last, but today was bright and sunny. Cold, and breezy, but those I can deal with. And being the holiday season, we spent some time down by the sea in Rottingdean. We headed out towards the marina.

The wind surfers were busy.

And there were gulls a'plenty!

Plus some jackdaws and crows as well.

A delightful little rock pipit was hopping along the concrete walls.

Down among the surf, the oystercatchers were busy making the best of the (not very) low tide.

We ended the visit with a short tour of the local church.

  1. It is January. And those people (surfers of all kinds) are in cold water. Something I will never understand 😛

  2. Wet suits, I presume, Darko.
    A stimulating sort of day.

  3. Wet or dry suits, I know that. But I've seen them shaking with blue lips, running toward cars to find some warmth :smurf:

  4. Maybe they love to suffer.

  5. Wind surfing is very popular here too, your sufers must be very hardy. Very nice selection of pictures!

  6. Excellent pictures I hope the winter storms have not caused much damage there 🙁

  7. dW, the kind of day we call 'bracing'. 🙂

  8. Lois, I think over here the surfers/wind surfers have to take whatever weather they can use. The winds here are good though.

  9. Erwin, thanks. I'm interested in your identification as I am not great with the smaller birds. The other option I had is the Scandinavian sub-species of rock pipit. But 'water pipit' would make sense as well.

  10. Darko, there are plenty of adventurous people out there. I'm not one of them!

  11. Sami, there's not been too much damage really, at least around here.

Good to hear  I suppose we had so big problems here because of all ever green trees that takes the wind more easily and then fall down on infrastructure (buildings and power lines).

  13. It was worse in Scotland, where they were without power for several days in some parts.

  14. I do find the photo of the water pipit very nice,a great set of Pict
