Late last night a welcome young visitor appeared in the garden.
A tentative step…
Boldly, it took another step into the garden…
Mum had gone on ahead, and the little fox suddenly felt alone and retreated back into the bushes.
Bold comes to look for her cub
Bold the vixen realized the cub had wandered and came in search. She found the cub and told it not to be afraid. The returned via the garden steps.
Bold and her cub
They didn't stay for long
The cub finds the exit
And before we leave the garden, a short selection from last night's trail cam. It includes a very brief glimpse of the cub, lots of Bold, and an unknown fox.
Camera note: all the photos were taken with the EF 24-105 F4L IS USM lens.

13 Jun 2009Nice shots as always. Did Bold have any other cubs this year, or is this her only one? 🙂

13 Jun 2009They look so gorgeous together. In video, this was Bold Vixen attacking another fox, right?

13 Jun 2009Darko, thanks! It's hard to know what's going on in the video, but that first move looks like a submissive posture, though clearly she was also being defensive of the territory. Shortly after the 'dash' I did spot a cat slipping away on the trailcam.

13 Jun 2009Hi Eric, I've not seen her with any other cubs but that doesn't necessarily mean that there's only one. In the past we've seen a vixen take one cub out and the male fox take another. They have quite complicated family arrangements at times. The den must be relatively near, but not so close that we see the cubs out alone.

13 Jun 2009Adele, it was a delightful moment, just to see her come back to look for the cub, go and get it and bring it round by the other route into the garden.
