It goes like that sometimes. I didn't really have much time for photos today so I just grabbed shots of what was to hand… which turned out to be quite an interesting set. I'll start late last night (early hours), in the garden. The fox cubs were out playing, and lurking in the undergrowth I finally saw one of the adults. I know they are very close a lot of the time, as they appear on the trail cam moments after I go inside. But seeing one has been a challenge,

Inevitably it was shy, and skulked the long way round the back of the pergola to escape the glare of the camera; but not without pausing long enough for one more shot.

First thing this morning I headed to the campus playing fields which back on the the Downs… and got my second adult fox in the space of around 7 hours.

Regular followers of this blog will know that I am also watching out for the local gulls who are nesting on rooftops. One pair has set up residence outside the window of an office (pressed up against it). The chicks appeared yesterday, so are around 24 hours old in this shot (taken from outside).

Work took me out to Worthing (about 20 miles away) for the afternoon. They too have a local gull population, which is growing rapidly. Here are three of the latest arrivals.

To close, a couple of shots of one of the cubs tonight, as the sun was going down.

Especially the first shot … he's so obviously hiding.
The baby gulls are really cute, too.

  2. :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: for the last three :hat:

  3. That second adult fox was obviously not to happy to see you nearby 😀

  4. Beautiful post! And the gulls look very harmless at that age 😉

  5. Sami, thanks

  6. dW, the adult foxes wait until I go inside to come out. They usually appear within about a minute, but if I'm there they simply stay under cover. Frustrating!

  7. Adele, thanks!

  8. dW, thanks! It's odd that the adults are quite so shy. Most years at least one is bold enough to make an appearance. This year we seem to have 4 or 5 foxes who are very shy indeed.
