We seem to be slipping back into winter. The temperature is a only a degree or so above freezing, the ground underfoot is sodden and the skies overhead are leaden. I didn't venture far today, just to the village pond at Falmer. It won't be until later in the year that the more unusual species will appear, so just a few shots of the permanent residents.
A greylag stretches her wings
A mallard glides by…
While a pair sit lazily on the sodden grass.
A black-headed gull fluffs up against the cold
And a herring gull contemplates a little bit of law-breaking.
Finally, a short video clip. This is edited from a single 40 second sequence from about half past midnight yesterday.
Camera note: all shots taken with the Canon 7D and EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM IS lens.

2 Mar 2011Darko, I reckon the signs translate into 'gull language' as 'Plenty of Fish'. Good to see that it's an international phenomenon. 😀
