Having walked about 2 miles at lunchtime in search of something to photograph (I managed a few landscapes, a very distant shot of the kestrel I saw yesterday, and some cattle) I was virtually back where I started when a flash of colour shot past me. Here's where it landed. I'm just moderately envious of whoever has those offices. 😉

It didn't stay there long. Its next hop was back to the field for more grub-hunting, and for once it lingered in moderately good range of the camera. I got several shots before it flew off into the woods. This is probably the pick of them.

Some days are like that. You walk for an hour, and everything worth photographing is caught in a two minute sequence at the end of it all. 😉

  2. "You walk for an hour, and everything worth photographing is caught in a two minute sequence at the end of it all."

Isn`t it like with a lot of things in our lives? 😀

  3. Green woodpeckers are up there with Jays, great crested grebes and Kingfishers as one of our prettiest bird.

    Great photos

  4. That's the story of my life too! Great shots of such a beautiful bird!

  5. Wow thats a good shot 😀 2 miles in an hour or i dont know how long you get, we get 30 minutes. 😛

  6. That second picture is just wonderful!

Woodpeckers have their own rules; it's just nice when they let us play by them! 😉

  7. Thanks Lois, but the traveling is much of the joy of it all.

  8. Darko, very true!

  9. Neil, thanks! Oh to get a kingfisher!

  10. Vulpes, they are always a delight to see, especially when they behave so well.

  11. Adele, I think this one must be quite bold. He hangs out in an area where there are generally people around. Not exactly hordes, but I think he has a little circuit where he knows he can get away easily.

  12. Mark, when I can I get an hour. Sometimes I don't get any time at all. Today was about 20 minutes, but it was dull so that's not so bad. It averages out ok, but I hate not getting out when the sun's shining :insane:

  13. So beautiful and colourful bird! The second capture is wonderful

  14. Thanks Anna!
