A couple of sequences today, the first taken at around 8.00am this morning. The black-headed gulls were flocking around the edge of the pond as one of the regulars there was throwing bread out to them. I stayed back a little way and used the sky as a background.

Sequence number two was taken at lunchtime. It was bitterly cold, with a distinct wind-chill. I hadn't planned this, but having spotted a kestrel out by local farmland I ended up following it around the edge of the field as it hunted for lunch.

It had just caught a vole in that last shot and took off with it. Unusually it was mouth-carrying.

There's snow in the air tonight, though with luck it won't be more than a light dusting. It's going to be a cold weekend though. :psmurf:

  1. Predatory birds are always nice to see. I've seen a bald eagle today trying to catch something near Capilano river. Gulls were not happy to see it, though :left:

  2. Good ones, Words! … The gulls are always entertaining in that kind of situation, and the kestrel is such a pretty raptor.

  3. Very nice shots

  4. dW, I tend to ignore the gulls, but I couldn't resist the flocking action and the light was just about ok.

  5. Erwin, thanks!

  6. Darko, I've been re-editing a lot of my kestrel-with-prey shots today. Amazing to watch (if a little grizzly). I'd love to see an eagle though!

  7. Excellent portrait of the hunting kestrel

  8. Adele, thanks! It's nice to see the kestrels really active again.
