It's a sign of a slow day when I end up photographing nothing but gulls, though the black-headed variety are fine looking birds and do put on a good show.

This first pair were engaged in a minor spat. These things go on all the time and are frequently food related.

Soon after that I more or less gave up on trying to get any decent shots. The light was dreadful, the air damp, and most of the more interesting species absent. Hence this final shot. A motion blur image of some of the black-headed gulls mixing with the mallards. Expect more like this if the weather doesn't improve.

  1. That first pair of shots is freat, Words.
Of course, I spent the late afternoon shooting gulls, myself.

  2. I really like the first shot – the brilliance of the wings against the pale backdrop, and the action is great of course.

  3. Adele, thanks. The light was awful when I took those first shots. Even shooting into the light I was up at 1600 ISO.

  4. dW, thanks. The black-headed gulls are dominating the pond at the moment. there's a good healthy flock of them there.
