The good news is that Bold came in over the garden fence this evening, which is the first time she's done that for a while. She was also happy to put some weight and stress on the injured leg (front left).

There's obviously still partial discomfort and I did catch her holding the leg up some of the time, but less frequently than before. She seems ok walking on it, but tends to revert to lifting it when she runs or stands.

I also managed some shots of her injured (right) eye. I can't really tell what's caused the problem. It looks a bit weepy, but there's no obvious injury.

This can't help though!

There seems to be some discharge in the lower corner of the eye. You can see it in this shot.

It's funny… In the early part of the year I thought 2009 was going to be a quiet year for foxes and I nearly got to the stage of abandoning the Fox of the Day feature. Then the wild foxes put in an appearance, and then finally Bold (who is more urban than wild) started showing up and has become an almost permanent fixture. In addition to Bold, the two other foxes are still appearing regularly on the trail cam. Whether or not this level of activity will continue through winter is anyone's guess. Usually it goes quiet (or the visits become intermittent). Time will tell. Meanwhile, Bold doesn't seem in a hurry to move on.

  1. Argh, that scratching over the injured eye looks disturbing but I hope she knows what she is doing :insane: I am glad her leg is feeling better, though.

She looks a bit scary in the fourth shot… but the fifts completely breaks the effect. 🙂
I'm happy that she seems to be getting better. Hopefully everything will turn out to be all right.

  3. Perhaps she ought to wear an Elizabethan collar, like dogs who have had surgery! Still, she's certainly very at home in your garden, and I'm glad that her leg is getting better.

It's been a strange year for me too with the foxes. The first part was terrible in the garden, especially after the Chipped Vixen was killed. But now I'm just hoping that my current vixen and dogfox stay put.

  4. Adele, I've seen more different foxes this year than ever before, and in more places. The scratch was more a general bit of grooming. I don't think she was targeting the eye in particular. She'd look great in a collar :clown:

  5. Darko, I think we have to trust her to know what's best. 🙂

  6. Wojtek, she's not scary! Just curious about the camera. I'm sure she'll be ok.

  7. Mark, yes she is improving. She still does limp/hop some of the time but she's getting there slowly. I'll keep FOTD going as long as the foxes keep coming 🙂

  8. Shes getting better which is good yay! 😀

You cant stop the Fox of the Day site as its what i go to first when on the PC lol! 😛
