A slightly cooler day to day, with some cloud cover coming in during the afternoon. Fine enough though for the dragonflies to pay a visit to the garden. We've plenty of damsels congregating around the pond, but I spotted this common dater perched on the apple tree at the other end of the garden. Darters are more or less oblivious to the camera, so long as you move slowly and avoid getting your shadow across them.

The fox cubs kept away during the daylight hours, but they were back this evening with Shy Boy in tow.

Time for a quick fallow deer impersonation 😉

And then back to the cubs (that's Pretty in the front of the shot). He certainly managing to overcome his shyness.

Camera note: dragonfly shots taken with the Canon 7D and EF 100mm f/2.8L macro IS USM lens; foxes taken with the EF 24-105 F4L IS USM lens.

  1. Nice ones, Words! … That darter looks like he's been assembled from miscellaneous spare parts.

Shy Boy maybe should be renamed "Sly Boy".

  2. dW, thanks! Dragonflies are quite remarkable creatures. Very robotic/mechanical, but so graceful as well.

Your re-naming of SB is worth a thought.

  3. A lot of darters, damselflies and dragonflies over here, too. Well, considering the amounts of mosquitoes and other bugs….. they are not starving :chef:
