More photos from the garden, which during the warmer part of the day is a constant flicker of butterflies and damselflies.

Up in the trees the greenfinches and starlings gather, the latter busy catching grubs to take back to their young.

Meanwhile hidden among the elder at the rear of the garden, a pair of green shield bugs are mating.

Tonight brought more activity, but the highlight was finding a toad relaxing in the pond. They are regulars, but they stay well hidden and this is the first time I've seen one this year.

And very briefly, a fox. Shutterbug wandered through the garden late this evening, barely pausing as he disappeared under the fence behind the shrubs in the top corner. Good to see him around… it's been a couple of weeks since his last observed visit.

  1. Well, at least he is around. I hope foxes didin`t decide to abandon your area :left:

  2. Erwin, thanks!

  3. Darko, there are still plenty of foxes, but they seem to be quite shy at the moment.

  4. I'm seeing more greenfinches and starlings than last year :right:

    Love the toad's face!

  5. Adele, the greenfinches are doing well here (and chaffinches), but I think starling numbers are a little lower than they've been in the past (though still plenty of them). I suspect the nesting crows are keeping them away… they're on constant patrol.

  6. Very Nice
