Well it’s definitely the week of the goose down at Falmer Pond. Today’s surprise visitor was a lone Egyptian goose. These are very pretty birds (if you are in London there are plenty in Regent’s Park), and a species I’ve not seen locally before. It kept very much to itself, and was briefly dive-bombed by a couple of herring gulls.

  1. Lost domestic pet?, feral? or invasive species?
    Still, a nice looking goose.

    1. Andy, feral. They were originally introduced as an ornamental breed, but now have breeding colonies mainly on the east coast (Norfolk/Suffolk). This one could have come from a collection, but equally could be wild.

  2. What a nice bird!

    1. Darko, yes they’re very pretty geese, quite small but they can be very feisty.
